Location: Alanton is one of Virginia Beach’s hidden jewels.  Nestled deep in Great Neck, along the southern shores of Broad Bay and east of Great Neck Road, Alanton is one of the area’s most distinctive neighborhoods.

The Alanton Community:  Alanton has been in the making for almost 400 years. Alanton neighborhood in Virginia Beach, for Katie Zarpas Before it was Alanton, it was a family farm issued by royal grant from King Charles I in 1637.  The McCullough family bought one of the original farmhouses in the 1920s, and by the 1960s they were developing the rest of the farmland.  It is called “Alanton” after one of Mr. McCullough’s sons.

Development began in the 1960s but continued for many years, and you can see this reflected in the wide variety of architecture.  Majestic trees line the streets, and many of the homes sit on large lots of more than an acre.

There are many waterfront homes in Alanton, and most of these provide lovely scenic views of First Landing State Park.  There is navigable deep water access, via Wolfsnare Creek and Linkhorn Bay, to the Chesapeake Bay and beyond.

The Alanton and nearby Baycliff communities cooperate on a number of joint ventures, including the Alanton-Baycliff Recreation Center.  This is a small nonprofit athletic Entrance to the Alanton Baycliff Rec Centerclub with a pool.  Though originally limited to the surrounding community, the ABRC is now open to everyone who pays the yearly dues.  Aside from the swimming pool, the ABRC hosts community parties and sponsors family movie nights.  There is also an Alanton-Baycliff Garden Club that works to maintain the beauty of Alanton’s public spaces.

Neighboring Communities: Linkhorn, Linkhorn Cove, & Baycliff.

Convenience: Alanton offers fast access to I-264, but is also close to the Virginia Beach Oceanfront and the beaches along Shore Drive.  It is an easy commute to NAS Oceana, Fort Story and Little Creek.

Shopping: There are many shopping opportunities near Alanton along Great Neck Road, but Alanton is also convenient to Hilltop, the boutiques of the Virginia Beach resort strip, and the malls at Lynnhaven and Pembroke.

Schools:  Alanton is in the First Colonial High School District.  Alanton Elementary is within the neighborhood, Cape Henry Collegiate (a local private school) is nearby, and Alanton is also served by Lynnhaven Middle School and Great Neck Middle Schools.1633 Cutty Sark, one of the homes I've sold in Alanton

Prices:  The homes for sale in Alanton vary widely in price.  As of this writing, there are beautiful brick homes available for $650,000 down the street from $6,000,000 private island estates.  You won’t find many short sales or foreclosures in Alanton.1708 Whiteside, another home I sold in Alanton

Waterfront Homes: Many of the waterfront homes in Alanton face Broad Bay or First Landing State Park, and there is a community boat ramp.  A few of the homes along the southeastern shore of Alanton face Bay Colony.  The Lynnhaven Boatel and other marinas are nearby for fast access to the Chesapeake Bay or Atlantic Ocean.
